Tom Chalmers

We caught up with Tom Chalmers and spoke about injuries, comebacks and his new under 18’s role

How is the knee, How did your recent operation go?

I’ve just had the first of the two ops I need, it went well now need to let it heal and wait to have the second one in about 9 months

Do you know why the Injury happened again?

Not sure why and when it re-tore, After my come back I was feeling okay. I had a couple of niggles so we got some advice. I had a couple MRI scans and multiple opinions from different people all of which said that I hadn’t re torn my ACL which is why I was continuing to play which ultimately made it worse.

Has any time frame been put on your return?

I will have a 9 month wait until my second surgery and then rehab so another 9/12 months so realistically looking the start of the 2026/2027 season

What are you doing to keep fit in other ways than regular training?

I still feel fit and looking after myself, I go to the gym every day and swim a couple times a week. As the injury gets better I will start to do more and more leading up to me making my return. I am looking forward to making many more appearances for Hastings United

We have seen you in a new role for Hastings United this season, tell us about that?

I have started my coaching and I am the Assistant Manager of the under 18’s. I’m really enjoying the new role and we have a great group with a lot of talent. This has already shown itself with a few boys making the step up to the first team. I feel like we have a good mix with Ginge (Marc Gall) Liam (Ridgers) and myself. The ultimate goal is to get as many of the boys playing first team football as we can

How did the role come about?

Ginge had mentioned it to me and Dean White, I thought it was a good idea to keep me involved with the club and try and stay involved with football whilst I’m injured.

Thank you for your time Tom, We will catch up with you soon to keep the U’s fans updated with your road back to full fitness
